I have read some of the recent posts about MSWin server performance (bad
compared to X server...). It is perfectly clear to me, that xvnc can reach
better performance as all the output is automatically presented to VNC (by
design of X).
But the question should be different, I think: There are a number of
commercially available products that do a similar job as VNC (though not
with the same interoperability) - eg. from Symantec or RemotelyPossible.
Why do they perform quite a bit better (with the same prerequisits)? Is it
that VNC dosn't "know" anything about the higher level stuff ("display a
window with system menu and a maximize box and title 'X' at coordinates
(....)")?
I think that it's not the amount of traffic that causes the problem (at
least not over an Ethernet) but the recognition of "higher level" windows
messages that could lead to a simpler description of what's happening on the
windows screen and therefore to a faster response time??
thanx for any input
