Using a french keyboard with the Windows viewer ?

I am using VNC to see my Unix desktop (either on Irix 6.4 or on Solaris 2.5)
from my PC under WindowsNT (4.0).

All is working fine except that I cannot use Alternate keys (the ones
normally accessed via Alt Gr). On a french keyboard, it means that I cannot
type characters as "~#{[|`\^@]}".

I've read docs and faq and didn't see this problem mentionned. Is it a known
problem ? Does anybody has a solution ?
