Before workstations with gui interfaces the best I could do was
Ann Arbor 60 line terminals with split screen hacks. That wasn't
enuf so we had two ranks of terminals, 3-4 in each, one above the
other (usually wyse25's or adm3's with ann arbor center bottom)
for each programmer. Generates lots of heat (summer in a silicon
valley garage is bad enuf as it is), hard to juggle the multiple
keyboards (the only kb switches were ones we soldered together),
somewhat painful when it falls on you (earthquakes happen).
mind, i wouldn't put a fb and 21" screen on a sun x000 server in
the back room (or a linux based router), although I have when a
vp wanted a better dog and pony show. (tours happen).
